South Lawn (White House)

Located south of the White House in Washington, D.C., the South Lawn is a significant portion of the presidential residence. The lawn is defined by East and West Executive Drives, as well as South Executive Drive, which opens onto the Ellipse, a public lawn. Historically open to the public prior to World War II, the South Lawn is now a private area used for formal and informal events. It hosts state arrival ceremonies, annual egg rolls, and staff barbecues. The South Lawn also serves as a landing pad for the presidential helicopter, Marine One.
