The Bolshoi Sports Palace

Description

The Bolshoy Ice Palace is a modern multifunctional sports, concert and entertainment center located in the Olympic Park of Sochi. The stadium was built specifically for the 2014 Olympic Games, during which it was the main hockey field. At the moment it is the home arena of the hockey club "Sochi".

The Ice Palace is large and can accommodate up to 12 thousand spectators at the same time during hockey matches. The shape of the building itself was made to look like a frozen drop, thus the stadium repeats the shape of the Beijing Opera. The color of the dome coverings is pearly white. There is also a curling center "Ice Cube", an ice arena "Puck" and a training stadium not far from the "Big" one. The estimated estimated cost of the construction was approximately 300 million US dollars. The authors of the architectural project are Nikita Tsymbal and Alexander Knyazev.

This arena hosted such competitions as hockey at the 2014 Winter Olympics, the 2013 World Junior Ice Hockey Championship, the 2014 Night Hockey League Gala Match, the Channel One Cup, the VTB United League All-Star Match 2017, the KHL All-Star Match 2015 and Sochi Hockey Open 2017.

After the Olympic Games, the stadium was taken over by the local self-government bodies of the Krasnodar Territory. And since the end of 2014, a local team has been based here, playing in the KHL – HC «Sochi ».
