Description

WEMBLEY STADIUM, also known as "New Wembley", is located in London and has a capacity of 90,000 spectators. At the same time, "Wembley" is the second largest in Europe, second only to the stadium "Camp Nou" in Barcelona.

"New Wembley" was built on the site of the old legendary "Wembley", which was completely dismantled in 2003. But the construction of the new stadium was postponed several times for a number of reasons and instead of the planned 2003, the stadium was built only in 2007. The stadium was opened on 9 March 2007, and the first official match was held on 24 March 2007 between the England and Italy youth teams, which ended with a score of 3:3.

The stadium's unique feature is the arch, located 133 metres above the stadium and 315 metres long. It supports the entire weight of the north roof and 60% of the weight of the retractable roof on the south side. Thanks to the retractable roof, Wembley has the largest number of spectator seats under a roof of any stadium in the world. The stadium also uses a system of platforms on the lower tier, which allows the stadium to be used for athletics competitions. With these platforms in place, the total capacity of the stadium will be reduced to 60,000 people.

Today, Wembley Stadium is home to the England national football team. Wembley also hosts the semi-finals and finals of the FA Cup, the FA Community Shield, the Football League Cup finals, and in 2011 and 2013 the stadium hosted the UEFA Champions League finals. In 2012, Wembley hosted football matches of the 2012 Summer Olympics, including the final.
